Madurai
is regarded as a temple town. It is known
for the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. Madurai
is one of the most ancient heritage sites
of India. Madurai is centered around the Meenakshi
Sundareswarar temple. The magnificent temple
complex sprawls over an area of 6 hectares.
It also has 12 gopurams or gateways, ranging
in height from 45 to 50 m, the tallest being
the southern one. The southern gateway is
beautifully proportioned and is nine stories
high.

with the Sculpture Meenakshi Templeimages
of gods, goddesses, gargoyles, and gryphons.
Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple was
rebuilt with amazing resilience by the Nayak
rulers of Madurai. Madurai can be reached
by train, bus or flight. Madurai has daily
flightsfrom Chennai and four times a week
from Bangalore. Madurai is an important junction
in the South Indian Rail Network. Madurai
connects to many cities and towns in Tamilnadu
and also to other states.
Rameshwaram
is an island situated in the gulf of
manner at the very tip of the Indian peninsula.
A very important pilgrim centre of the Indians.
Rameshwaram is the place from where Lord Rama,
built a bridge across the sea to rescue his
consort Sita, from her abductor, Ravana. This
is also the place where Rama worshipped Lord
Shiva to cleanse away the sin of killing Ravana.
Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit
this pilgrimage which is known as the Varanasi
the south.
Kanyakumari
or the Cape Comorin, the southern most tip
of peninsular India is sprawled over an area
of 1672 sq. km, occupying 1.29% of the total
extent of Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari is also
known as Kanniyakumari in Tamil Language.
It is the confluence point of three oceans
- the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the
Indian Ocean. Apart from this, it is also
a vital Hindu pilgrim center, renowned for
its exotic sunrises and sunsets over the horizon.
One of the unique features of Kanyakumari
is the multicolored sand found on its beach.
